Meet Jack Cain.
To some known as LACES.
Jack joined me last week for 'Meet the Creatives'.
Grown up on the Sunny Coast and now located in Melbourne
Jack's an interesting character. He loves his music, hence is passion for being Disc Jockey.
But he does a little more. He now has his own record label. He books gigs for venues and is has been writing for some dope blogs; Adam NOT Eve and Your Friends House.
Check him out.
Hannah: Hey Jack how've you been? I hear
your new 'Pure Dopeness Tour' for DJ LACES is going well? Tell us all about
it.
Jack: Hey babe! Yeah the tour is great fun, its like mini holidays in between my normal weekly DJing and what not. Its cool
to play and visit towns I’ve never been to before, meet all the guys that you
build a mutual friendship with over the internet, sometimes it feels like DJs
only exist on the internet until you get out and experience it all!
H: So how did your DJing come about? To
then now have your own record label 'Farthingwood Records' you started, what's
been going with that?
J: Shit I wanted to be a DJ around
when I was 18 and a half. I lived in Noosa. I went out to the rolling rock
regularly it actually wasn’t bad back then. Ministry of Sound would tour acts a
lot there and I saw some dudes who I have played along side now. To be fair Danny t
was the first DJ that wowed me and made me look into doing it. Then the song
Moby- we love to move in here (Crookers bass in here remix) was the one that
really drove me into it, then the deadmau5 remix of not alone by Calvin Harris
and the Axwell remix of ‘Sweet Disposition’. I had then downloaded Traktor and
was working it out this is around 19 years old. So that’s where it started.
Farthingwood is great. The support is huge and I have some awesome music coming
out on it really soon in fact. Focusing on Hip Hop beats and some more dancey
house stuff trying not to pigeon hole the label as I myself like good music!
H: Nice, good to hear it’s going well and your using diversity.
I know that your also a writer, for some big blogs; Adam not Eve and Your
Friends House which you were apart of the start of. How did you become involved
in them?
J: Well with Adamnoteve I have been
very slack lately as I have been so busy and so I’ve been neglecting my duties (super
aleks). Yourfriendshouse to me is like my own home. Even when I lived at home I
still lived outside in the caravan you know haha. I cant take any credit for
its success but I can say I’ve been there supporting and contributing where I
can since day dot really. I haven’t written for them in ages but I love it to
death and everyone involved. I have met great people and I will say this with
confidence it truly is the best blog in Australia!
H: Well we hope to see some more stuff
soon. What was your glory moment of writing? I mean who were you, I guess, a
little star struck by?
J: Mm I had dinner with Zeds Dead!
That was fucking cool while interviewing them. I mean I’ve interviewed Chance
Waters, Seth Sentry, Jagwar ma, Breach, Rac, Persues, Drop Out Orchestra, the
list goes on, oh and Ta-ku (look out for him on farthingwood) and loads of like
people who back when they were up and coming and are now killing it.
H: Awesome dude, cool to see someone interviewing
the up and coming talent and seeing what they’re about. Where can we catch you
next as LACES and what's next for you?
J: Um on one of the tour stops not
sure when this is published but yeah you can find out by hitting up my Facebook.
What’s next for me? Well I just
enrolled to do a 2-year bachelor in audio production. I’m doing a mini support
tour of Queensland with a good friends band in July straight after the ‘Pure
Dopeness Tour’. I have a few events I’m running in Melbourne. I got all the
record label releases being smashed out in the next 2 months and I’m working on
my next mix tape that will feature songs from 2002,2003,2004 going to be a real
party stater!
H: Well thank you Jack for chatting Jack, you sound super busy and we can't wait to see it all unfold! Wish you luck with everything in the near future. Hope to chat to you soon.
